I am Bonita Green Gambrell, President of the Omicron Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Thank you for taking the time to browse our website.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the nation’s first sorority established by African American women, was founded on January 15, 1908 at the historically black institution,
Howard University in Washington, D.C. It was the dream of then co-ed, Ethel Hedgeman (Lyle), to create a support network for women with like minds to come together,
lift one another up and use their talents and strengths for the benefit of others. She believed that college bred women owed an everlasting debt to make things better
for African American people. From this strong desire came the Alpha Kappa Alpha credo, “To be supreme in service to all mankind.”
Omicron Tau Omega is a graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and was chartered on March 31, 1985. Our chapter is the home of over 120
members and since its inception; Omicron Tau Omega has and will continue to be an asset to the community.
Today the sorority’s track record of service, scholarship and sisterhood spans the globe through the work of 993 chapters and over 283,000 members.
The 2014-2018 Program theme is, Launching New Dimensions of Service. The program features five target areas, one Signature Program, and Community Service Days.
The Five target areas are:
1) Educational Enrichment
2) Health Promotion
3) Family Strengthening
4) Environmental Ownership
5) Global Impact.
Many of our
service projects are open to the public and we also work collaboratively with other groups to maximize outreach. The chapter is firmly committed to its mission of
providing community resources to people in the North Harris County area. These resources will provide unity and expand Omicron Tau Omega’s community presence as
a result of these initiatives.
We look forward to your support, which is critical to the success of our efforts in impacting the communities we serve. We encourage you to continue to help us by partnering
with our chapter to bring about positive social change to the community. Again, welcome to our website!
