What is this?
Pink Goes Red Women’s Health Symposium is a collaboration between the American Heart Association and its National Strategic Partner, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
The beauty and strength of the African American culture rests in the family, and the heartbeat of the family is the wife and mother. Unfortunately, heart disease and stroke are attacking that heartbeat. The African American population in Texas is in danger. The number of deaths related to heart disease and stroke, the nation’s leading causes of death and disability respectively, are out of control. The death rate of African American females is 69% higher than
...
those of other ethnicities that are attributed to heart disease and stroke.
Go Red for Women Health Symposium is a free event designed to educate and empower African American women to live heart healthy lives. The Symposium includes; free health screenings, panel discussion with Q&A and a survivor (s) testimony. This education is critical for Harris County where African American women constitute 12% of our population. In addition, 49% of this community is under the age of 65 which presents a tremendous opportunity to encourage lifestyle changes that lead to prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
